Sixteen AWS launches from October 14 to 27, 2026, ranked by what they change on the bill. ECS Gateway still leads (~$394/mo less for 25 services in us-east-1). ECS GPU sharing and GPT-6.1 Terra come next. Five of the sixteen are not cost cuts.
On September 21, 2026 the Strands Agents team reported 28% lower token cost across six benchmarks, and 77% less than Claude Code with Fable 5 on Terminal-Bench. That figure is not an AgentCore bill.
Palaniappan PAWS Settings spend limits, still a limited release on 23 Sep 2026, alert at 50%, 75%, and 90%, then pause the project. Do nothing for 90 days and AWS deletes the project data. The minimum limit is the greater of $20 or AWS's estimate.
Kevin W.On September 22, 2026 AWS made GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna generally available on Bedrock. OpenAI’s internal eval found Sol makes about half as many factual mistakes as GPT-5.6 Sol. GPT-6.1 Sol followed on September 29, Ultrafast on October 8, and GPT-6.1 Terra on October 26 at half the price of 6.1 Sol. This post covers the lane routing.
Palaniappan POn Sep 18, 2026 AgentCore microVM Runtime V2 went GA. AWS P75 cold starts were 1.9 to 2.0s vs 5.4 to 30s on V1, but consumption rates rose to $0.1276/vCPU-hour and $0.0169/GB-hour. Memory reclaim waits 120 seconds.
Palaniappan PScore volume, pain, data, and write-risk. Readiness below 16 out of 30 means do not fund writes. McKinsey found 62% experimenting and 23% scaling in at least one function.
Palaniappan POn Aug 6, 2026 ElastiCache added Graviton4 M8g/R8g/C8gn for Valkey and Memcached, with up to 47% higher throughput, 43% lower P99, and 31% better price-performance vs Graviton3. Field guide: family pick, RI traps, canary checklist.
Kevin W.On July 16, 2026 AWS removed the 30-day Standard residency gate for Standard-IA and One Zone-IA lifecycle transitions. Day-0 IA can cut first-month storage ~46% on 10 TB cold logs, but the 30-day IA billing minimum and $0.01/GB retrieval fees still apply.
